    • Add "Start reading this serial from the last known page"

Yes, I know this is hard because you don't know the last known page when this is clicked for a new serial. Put a marker in in this case that starts the reader at the last known page once the serial has been successfully scanned once?

We plan to provide both both “start from the beginning” and “start from the current page”. We have a different plan to handle new unscanned serials; we hope to scan them quickly enough that nobody other than the person who adds it notices, and we plan to show that person their recently created but unmarked serials.

      • Fix comics with weird structures like Oglaf

Oglaf is a very popular comic, but it is unusable on ComicRocket. The strips are not structured in a strict serial fashion. Every Sunday there is a new story. Sometimes the story is just one page. Sometimes the story is several pages. There are both next story and next page links on the site.

To properly read Oglaf in a serial fashion you just click next page until there are no more next pages. Then click next story just once. Then click next page until there are no more pages. Repeat. It's a for loop inside another for loop. The…

We were indexing Oglaf just fine until they changed how they display their “I am over 18” warning. (Frankly, I have fun just reading that warning every once in a while.)

Unfortunately our crawler is only five years old and can’t click the “I am over 18” button, so it never finds any pages. I haven’t been able to get a response from the creators of Oglaf about this issue, so I’m at a bit of a loss. But obviously I’d like to fix it!

        • Chapters, for users that find one-page-a-week excruciating.

For too long have users been getting lost in the void of "the wait" where they catch up on their favorite comics once a month or so. I propose that comic-rocket allow users to indicate chapters/acts/books so that users can see when a book is completed. The chapter points can also be indicated/highlighted on the framed progress bar.

Users should also be able to flag which comics they want a notification for when a chapter/act/book completes. Gunnerkrigg Court for instance, updated once a week, is best read by chapter. I don't want to know when a page has been added!…

          • Slim down the list of serials

Each serial on the new front page takes up too much vertical space. The result is I can only see five at a time where previously I could skim my entire collection. I would prefer to see the whole collection.

We’re now planning to offer an option for a condensed view that doesn’t display banners, though that’s going to need some fiddling before it’s ready. I’ll update this request when there’s a prototype to test out.

            • Integrate Archive Binge with the comic marker

Newcomer here from Archive Binge, so I may be misunderstanding how Comic Rocket works, and this may sound silly.

It might help us newbies transition to the Comic Rocket way of life if the pages we visit via the RSS feed were marked in the same way they are when we use the Comic Rocket navigation bar to work through a comic's archive.

Thanks to the RSS feeds, I've gotten several pages of comics under my belt, but the marker on the main page for my comic still says I'm way behind.

              • Allow subscribing to a serial BEFORE it's indexed

When I find a new web comic I want to read, my immediate impulse is check if it's on Serialist. If it's not, then I add it to Serialist. Unfortunately, I can't subscribe to the new serial until Serialist has indexed it. Usually I wind up forgetting to subscribe.

So it would be nice if, at the point of adding a new serial, I could subscribe to it.

                  • Predefined list of tags and genres

When searching and adding tags and genres, you should allow selecting from a list of predefined values. This has multiple benefits: avoids misspellings, standardizes data, helps the user choose. It also lets people know that you *can* search by tag and genre; this is not at all obvious in the current interface.

You could either populate the list yourself, or choose from freeform entries that users have already chosen.

                    • Expand the Scope of the Upcoming Events Feature for Creators

Would LOVE to have control of the Upcoming Events listing put in the hands of the authors so I can add events and appearances myself. Absolutely LOVE this feature, I always want to know which creators are exhibiting at which shows.
Would also love to add data about each convention, like attendence, table fees, average hotel cost...
Could turn this into a widget that I imagine quite a few creators would use as their upcoming events calendar.

                      • Front page of Comic Rocket should be Staff picks and genre.

There should still be an explore page. I just think that when a user comes to the site it should be about the community, then they can click on their page with their bookmarks. This allows people to be introduced to new comics immediately rather than get stuck in a habit of only reading what they are already following.

I think we can do quite a bit better at this, too! We have some other projects we have to take care of first, but we’re all really looking forward to seriously revamping the reading and discovery experience at Comic Rocket.

Recommendations are a nice thing, but they don't always fit. How about adding the possibility to remove a recommendation, thus refining the user profile?

That’s in the works! We have some recommendations improvements coming as soon as we can get to them, and feedback on whether you like a recommendation or not should be part of that.

Not knowing what the plans are for the "predefined list of tags and genres" or what changes may have already been made in this area already, I felt it important to... I guess "state the obvious"...

I was just looking through the select field for genres while updating the info for Woohooligan and noticing genres like "knitting" and "centaurs" and "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and "adaptation of classic literature", any of which are likely to have no more than about 3 total comics in the entire world that legitimately fit into that as a "genre".
